I was having a weird problem with my internet connection where I could see my home page but no other websites. I uploaded this photo to see if it was cached or actually displaying. It was displaying. I had to reinstall my web browser to fix the problem. Madness!

Sunrise September 1, 2008

Sunrise, originally uploaded by biroschik2000.

Sunrise on the second day didn't look as impressive as the previous day. It was really stormy and overcast so technically there wasn't a sunrise to speak of - still a nice walk down to the lake though.

Wild times

Wild times, originally uploaded by biroschik2000.

Somebody hold me back! It might be time for some sort of intervention on my behalf. I need to calm my crazy weekends in the suburbs right down and right now. I spent the better part of the evening making this teeny-tiny stage and then taking photographs of assorted objects and soap bubbles for a photo contest a photo club I am in is holding. Carrying around a dinner plate full of bubble blowing solution is the kind of fun you can only experience once in a lifetime my friends.

As you can probably guess, the best part is all the pictures I took ended up looking lousy.

The Fix Is In

Hasn't, originally uploaded by biroschik2000.

This is the kind of thing that would only happened to me. I'm hanging around Target waiting for the kids to finish checking out all the toys when I notice that somebody was really, really bored and had posed all of the animal toys in various scenes of carnage. I don't think anybody was keeping score, but the predators had a huge lead over the prey in the assorted matches.

Far be it from me to let the goofy teenagers who undoubtedly posed all the animals traumatize all of the little kids who were going to come strolling along and witness this circle of life apocalypse. I start putting all the animals back on their respective shelves., but I can't resists snapping a camera phone pic of the classic battle of alligator versus cow. I grew up in the Midwest - this sort of thing happens all the time.

And, of course, that's when two store employees come cruising around the corner and bust me taking the picture.

I thought about buying this little couch that folds out into a bed to put in the room upstairs where the kids watch TV.

Shopping Cart 2

For some reason, I never could find my way back to the store. I think my dad ended up returning the cart in his truck.

I like to think this video explains the "for sale" sign you see in the background in a neighbor's yard.

Shopping Cart 1

Some nut(s) ditched a shopping cart in my parent's yard while we were there visiting, so I attempted to return the cart to the store from where it came by repeatedly riding it down the hill next to my parent's house.

Lobster or Scorpion?

As we were exiting the pool a week or so ago, I saw something dark and mysterious crawling along the base of our house. I slowly approached and saw the weirdest looking bug I have ever seen. I called Steve to get over there pronto, but by the time he did, the "bug" was gone. He said, "well, what did it look like?" And I said, "believe it or not, it looked like a small lobster." It was finally decided by my family that I was seeing things and perhaps it was just a trick of the light. I knew that wasn't true! And then I convinced myself that it was the biggest scorpion I'd ever seen and started wondering what I would do if I saw it again. And I was also hoping it wouldn't come into the house! A few hours later we realized we had not put the pool alarm back in the water so we went down to do so .... about midnight. As Steve was putting the alarm in, I saw something dark in the shallow end, got a flashlight, and there was my "lobster!" Fished it out with a pool net and put it in a bucket where it signaled its anger by clattering its little claws against the side of the bucket. Steve said it was a crawfish or crawdad. Me - yuck - never have seen one before and never want to see one again. After we decided (rather quickly) that it couldn't live in our yard or pool, Steve took it to a small stream and released it to a friendlier environment. I hear people eat those things! Thank you for listening.

Full Circle

I bought a Holga camera to experiment with... Even with all the digital equipment I now have, I cannot resist the dreamy look of the Holga prints. Speaking of prints, getting 120 film processed is more of a chore than I expected. I found a local lab that will do the work. Wal*Mart also prints the film for about a third of the cost, but the film is sent out. I shot a quick test roll, and have dropped it off to see how good Wal*Mart does. I'm half convinced that the film won't get processed. I'll know for sure on March 19.
